Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park

The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park in Accra is the last resting place of Ghana's first president and dedicated to his legacy. The mausoleum stands exactly at the place where Nkrumah on the 6th. March 1957 exclaimed the independence of Ghanas. The architecture symbolizes a reverse sword, in the Akan culture a sign of peace.

Osu Castle (Christiansborg)

The Osu Castle, also called Christiansborg, belongs to UNESCO World Heritage Site and since 17. Century on the coast of Osu. Lighthouse by Jamestown

The lighthouse of Jamestown is one of the most striking landmarks in Accra's oldest district. Today's tower was built in the 1930s and replaced an earlier building from 1871. With its red and white stripes it is visible from far away. 112 steps lead up, and the view over the fishing port, the old town and the Atlantic is worth the ascent.

Fort São Jorge da Mina (Elmina)

The Elmina Castle is the oldest European building in sub-Saharan Africa. The Portuguese originally built it for gold trading in 1482. Over the centuries it became the most important hub for the transatlantic slave trade. The dungeons in which up to 200 people were waiting for their shipping are still preserved. Kakum National Park

The Kakum National Park lies about 30 kilometers north of Cape Coast and protects one of the last remaining tropical rainforests Ghanas. Boti Waterfalls

The Boti Falls Twin waterfall in the Eastern region of Ghanas, about 90 minutes from Accra. During the rainy season from June to August they flow together, and a rainbow forms above the waterfall. National Museum of Ghana

The National Museum of Ghana in Accra is oldest museum in the country. It was opened on 5 March 1957, a day before independence Ghanas. Gallery 1957

The Gallery 1957 is one of the most important Gallery of Contemporary West African Art. Founded in 2016 on the Ghanaian Independence Day, she shows works by artists from Ghana, West Africa and the Diaspora. The gallery operates three exhibition rooms in Accra, Kempinski Hotel and Galleria Mall, as well as a location in London. The artists represented include Amoako Boafo, Serge Attukwei Clottey and Gideon Appah. Despite Automobile Museum

The Despite Automobile Museum in East Legon is Ghana's first automobile museum and was opened in June 2025. The entrepreneur Osei Kwame Despite has made his private collection of over 60 vehicles accessible to the public. Sheabutter Museum

The Shea Butter Museum by Hamamat Montia is the world's first museum dedicated exclusively to Sheabutter. For the first time in 2019, there are locations in Accra and Tamale. The museum shows 21 different shea butter varieties from all over Africa and explains the traditional production from the harvest of shean nuts to the finished product. Live demonstrations, videos and interactive stations make the visit a sensual experience. W.E.B. DuBois Centre

The W.E.B. Du Bois Memorial Centre for Pan-African Culture in Cantonments is the last resting place of the American civil rights activist and Panafanianist W.E.B. Du Bois. In 1961, at the invitation of President Kwame Nkrumah to Ghana, he became a Ghana citizen and lived in this house until his death in 1963. The Centre was opened in 1985 and shows its personal Library, manuscripts and photos. In addition to the Mausoleum, where his wife Shirley Graham Du Bois is buried, there is an outdoor theatre and the Marcus Garvey guesthouse for researchers.

Laboma Beach Resort

Kaneshie Market

Kaneshie Market is located in the west of Accras on the road towards the coast and is one of the largest markets in the city. It originated in the 1950s, the name means "under the lamp" on Ga and recalls its beginnings as a night market. The modern market complex was opened in 1979 and extends over three floors with over 2,500 stands. You can find everything here: fresh fruit and vegetables, fish, meat, fabrics, cosmetics, clothing and household goods. Languages in Ghana

Ghana is a linguistically diverse country with different languages and dialects. English is the official language.
